Golf as a Family Sport

There are many reasons why golf is and should be a family sport. The average nine hole round of golf takes about two hours and if you do eighteen you are on the course for about four. That is a big chunk out of your day so when that time is spent with your family it seems more worthwhile.

Of course, the first reason for family golf is togetherness. Another reason why family golf is a good thing is that the etiquette of the golf game is good training for etiquette in life. Children learn to be quiet and respectful when others are putting or driving. It teaches self control. The game of golf also teaches structure in a fun way. There is order to who hits first and why.

Another obvious reason for family golf is that it allows spouses and children to be involved with what is important to the major golfer in the family. Most golfers are male and wives and children never see them enjoying what they love. It helps the whole family appreciate what it means to them. It can help inspire the rest of the family to love the game too.

There are many golf courses that have special events that cater to families. There are family tees set up for the youngest golfers. After the game all the family members can get together for a barbecue or picnic and share memorable moments on the course.
